Our lab is part of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and located at the Janelia Farm Research Campus, a unique, world-class research community in Ashburn, VA. Over the next five years, Janelia Farm Research Campus (JFRC) will grow to over 400 employees, to include top scientists, physicists, engineers and operations staff.

Our Research

We are interested in the neural circuits underlying action selection in the context of voluntary choice and their dysregulation in neurological disorders. We employ quantitative decision-making behavior in rats and mice, specific perturbation of neural circuit function using molecular tools, and finding neural correlates of the interesting aspects of the behavioral tasks using sophisticated electrophysiological and optical techniques. Postdocs

We are currently recruiting two postdocs who have an interest in dissecting the neural circuits underlying rodent behavior. Specifically, we are interested in recruiting a postdoc to use molecular circuit manipulation tools to map brain regions involved in our decision-making task; and another postdoc to use cutting edge imaging techniques to correlate neural activity with behavioral plasticity.

Undergraduate summer students

We are enthusiastic in having undergraduate students during the summer. If you are interested, please email Alla Karpova directly or visit the online description.
